THE HEARTSTART COURSE

On the course, you can learn vital but simple lifesaving skills which could help to keep a person alive until professional help arrives.  You need no prior medical knowledge to attend a course.  It could be one of the most valuable things you'll ever learn because heart disease and serious injuries could touch us all and in future, your ELS skills may mean the difference between the life and death of a friend or family member.

Course Content:

The Heartstart Course covers the following key elements of Emergency Life Support:

  • The conscious and unconscious casualty;
  • The recovery position;
  • Cardiac arrest and CPR;
  • Suspected heart attack;
  • Choking;
  • Serious bleed;
  • Introduction to Automated External Defibrillators (AED's)

In addition we give a demonstration on the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).  AED's are becoming increasingly more available in Town centre locations, Leisure and Fitness Clubs, Shopping Centres etc... and our aim is to give confidence and show people how easy they are to use to save someone's life.

Community Courses:

Our Community Courses are just that, courses for the community.  This means that all our public courses are open to any member of the general public, and are run throughout the year at various community venues, village halls, school halls etc.

The Community Course is open to all members of the public aged 10 years and over.

The course lasts for 2 hours and provides a mixture of theory, presentation / video, and practical demonstrations and hands-on learning.  All Community Courses are free, and certificates are issued on successful completion of the course.

Places are limited on Community Courses, and all individuals / families wanting to attend are required to book.  Additional Courses can be run on demand, so if you have a specific group of family / friends who want to do a course together, please contact us and we will do our best to try and accommodate your request.

Group / Club / Organisation Courses

The Group Courses are the same as the Community Course in respect of content, however these courses are organised through local groups (WI, Church Group, Scouts etc.) or through local Clubs (i.e. Sports Club, Football, Rugby, Cricket, Tennis etc.) directly, and are run on demand.  The group courses are usually run at the Group's normal meeting venue / club room.

The Group Course is open to all organisations whose members are aged 10 years and over.

The course lasts for 2 hours and provides a mixture of theory, presentation / video, and practical demonstrations and hands-on learning.  All Group Courses are free, and certificates are issued on successful completion of the course.

Schools Courses

The School Courses can be arranged and run for either staff or students.

For Staff and Students over 10 years of age, the content is the same as the Community Courses.

For younger students (aged 6 - 10), a 'junior' course can be run in stages highlighting the importance of how to call for help, key information to give to the emergency services, and then progressing to the same content as the main Community Course as they get older.

Again, these courses are organised in conjunction with local Schools, and are run on demand.  The School courses are always run at the School's premises.

The general course lasts for 2 hours and provides a mixture of theory, presentation / video, and practical demonstrations and hands-on learning.  All Group Courses are free, and certificates are issued on successful completion of the course.  The junior course is run in 30-45 minute sessions over a period of time.

Annual Refresher Training

We aim to provide enjoyable training to give you the skills to deal with emergency situations.  However, if these skills are not used, memory fades with time, and we recommend that anyone who undertakes a course refreshes it annually, in order to maintain the knowledge, and keep up to date with any changes.
